His research interests are concentrated on Nineteenth and Twentieth century Italian economic thought, with particular stress upon the relationship between economics and institution and between theory and economic policy. The main fruit of this interest are the four monographs on the history of public accountancy from Cavour to Fascism (issued by the Fondazione Luigi Einaudi of Turin in 1975), the biographies of Luigi Einaudi (issued by Utet in 1986) and of Francesco Ferrara (issued by Sellerio in 1995), and the survey on Italian economics from the Sixteenth century to the present days (issued by Utet in 2000). His last volume concerns the economists, market and institutions (with Giappichelli, 2008).
